The City of Portland’s Sustainability at Work program was officially sunset in 2021, but its resources and support services remain available for businesses. According to the City’s own site, the program — which had been running since 2007 to help Portland businesses improve environmental practices through free advisory services and certification — was ended due to the significant challenges of 2020 and evolving business needs. The City decided to “sunset” the program, meaning it is no longer actively administered as a city-run initiative.

However, the program’s green business tips, tools, and resources are still online, and program staff remain available to assist Portland organizations with recycling, composting, and waste reduction. This means that while the formal certification and advisory structure have ended, many of the original program’s benefits are still accessible through the City’s sustainability website.
